Jupiter – Io Transit; video, mirror, TV; dimensions variable, 2012.
Inspired by celestial transits such as Jupiter’s moon, Io, whose shadow leads its path across the surface of Jupiter, Bovinich draws attention to the remnants of living within transient time. Examining the accidental and insignificant gestures that speak to a living body, if identity is made up of an individual’s actions, how do we compute the resulting sculptures of existence: hand-written notes, a bodily indentation on a couch, wipe marks on the bathroom mirror—all objects that shadow us momentarily and precede us inevitably.
